Roger “Daddy Cool” Smith

Bass Guitar

Copyright Neil Harvey

The elder statesman of the band, Roger didn’t pick up a bass until his thirties (no, not the 1930’s). He first played a tea chest, broom handle and length of twine to good effect with Hot Banana, a skiffle and rock and roll band formed in the mid-west (Malmesbury, Wiltshire that is). Eventually, Hot Banana graduated to real band and Roger graduated to a real guitar. He now plays a guitar with 5 STRINGS! Daddy would have been so proud

As well as playing with the Joliet Blues Band he plays with a Wiltshire based band The Dubious Brothers, writing songs, singing and playing bass. He has played with various Soul and Blues bands over the years.

He used to live a few doors away from Bill Wyman in London – another old bass player.
